The objective of the Home Inspector program is to provide the skills needed to obtain entry-level employment as a home inspector capable of inspecting and reporting on the condition of a home’s major systems and components. This certificate program starts by giving the student background knowledge about home design and building requirements. Then it progresses through the inspection process. Throughout the program, the student will be introduced to the various forms and reports that home inspectors must generate and will receive instruction and practical exercises related to the preparation of these reports.
Exam Preparation
The Home Inspection Course and cumulative final are designed to meet the objectives of the National Home Inspection exam. Students will be prepared to sit for this exam as well as the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) exam.
Certification and/or Licensure
The educational requirements for becoming licensed as a home inspector vary greatly from state to state as follows:
- 32 states have no restrictions on education, so our program is acceptable in all 32
- The following states have restrictions, but have reviewed and accepted our program:
- Arizona
- Oklahoma
- South Dakota
- Oregon
- Tennessee
- Indiana (lab required)
- Illinois (lab required)
- Connecticut (additional study materials required)
- The following states have restrictions and DO NOT accept distance education as acceptable training:
- Texas, Nevada, New Jersey, Louisiana, Maryland, New York, Arkansas, Mississippi, Virginia, Kentucky
